Adam Collinson is the craftsman and creative force behind Woodworking by Adam.

His woodworking journey began unexpectedly in 2020. Looking to save a bit of money, he set out to build himself a custom computer desk using reclaimed pallet wood. While the project didn't exactly save him money in the end, it sparked a deep, lifelong passion for the craft of woodworking.

Dedication to the Craft

Adam began formally exploring the trade in 2021 during his high school woodshop classes. Under the guidance of his instructor, he absorbed foundational techniques and honed his technical skills. Determined to take his craft to the next level, Adam spent the summer of 2022 funding his first real collection of machinery through a part-time job.

Over the following year, he began documenting his builds on Instagram. Discovering a massive, supportive community of fellow woodworkers inspired him to turn his passion into a professional business. He launched his website to showcase his growing portfolio and opened an online shop to sell his custom creations.

Commercial Success & Expansion

Woodworking By Adam has quickly expanded into a full-scale operation. Today, Woodworking by Adam crafts premium custom furniture as well as commercial retail displays. Notably, Adam has partnered with Makers to manufacture retail shelving for all of their prominent Ontario store locations, including:

Designing for the Future

​

To continually elevate his work, Adam is currently furthering his design and technical expertise at Sheridan College, where he is pursuing an Honours Bachelor of Craft and Design (Furniture). This formal education allows him to blend classic heirloom craftsmanship with modern, innovative design concepts.

Adam's dedication to innovative design was recently recognized when he was named the 2025 winner of the prestigious SPECtacular Excellence Award for Best Furniture Design Portfolio. This highly competitive accolade is awarded to emerging designers who demonstrate an exceptional mastery of form, structural ingenuity, and functional aesthetics in their work, marking Adam as a rising talent to watch in the furniture design industry.

When he isn’t covered in sawdust or sketching his next piece in the workshop, you can find Adam snowboarding in the winter, out on the local fields playing paintball, or unwinding with video games alongside his friends.
