Thank you and congratulations on your purchase of a one-of-a-kind, handmade piece from Woodworking By Adam! Our products are crafted to last a lifetime. To keep your beautiful piece looking its best, please follow these care and maintenance guidelines based on your specific product and finish.

Cutting, Serving &

Charcuterie Boards

​

All of our boards are meticulously handmade and finished with a premium, food-safe oil-and-wax blend.

​​

Daily Cleaning & Maintenance

  • Hand Wash Only: Never submerge or soak your board in water. If it was only used for bread, a quick wipe with a damp cloth is all it needs. For moist or sticky foods, wash it with mild liquid dish soap and warm water, then rinse quickly.

  • Dry Immediately: Wipe the board dry with a clean towel right after washing, then let it air-dry on its side.

  • Strictly No Dishwashers: The excessive heat and harsh chemicals of a dishwasher will cause the wood to dry out, warp, and crack, permanently damaging your board.

  • Avoid Harsh Cleaners: Do not use abrasive scrubbing pads or aggressive chemical cleaners.

Deep Cleaning & Deodorizing

  • To Remove Odours: Cut a lemon in half and rub it over the surface. Let the juice sit for a few minutes, rinse, and dry.

  • To Remove Stains: For stubborn stains, sprinkle coarse salt or baking soda onto the board, rub it with the lemon half, and wipe clean with a warm, damp cloth.

  • Sanitizing After Raw Meat: Wipe the board down with white vinegar or a mild sanitizing solution (1.5 teaspoons of bleach mixed into 4 cups of water). Rinse and dry immediately.

Restoring & Refreshing the Wood

​

Wood is a natural material that dries out over time. We recommend giving your board a facelift every 1-2 months:

​

  • Coat the board in food-grade mineral oil or use the complimentary board wax provided with your original purchase.

  • Need a Refill? If you run out of wax, we sell refill tins ($3 each) and large 250ml jars ($15 each).

Products Finished With Urethane/Polyurethane

 

Urethane and polyurethane finishes build a durable, protective layer on top of the wood rather than soaking into it. This makes it incredibly low-maintenance.

  • Spill Care: Clean up any spills immediately. Wipe the surface with a damp cloth and dry it off right away.

​​

  • Routine Care: Dust the surface regularly with a soft microfiber cloth to prevent fine dust particles from creating micro-scratches in the finish.

​

  • Repairing/Refreshing Your Furniture: If the surface becomes heavily scratched over time, it can be restored. Use a fine automotive polishing compound to buff out light imperfections, or give the surface a light, even hand-sanding with 220-grit sandpaper before reapplying a fresh topcoat of the same finish.

Rubio Monocoat Oil Plus 2C

 

Rubio® Monocoat is a premium hard-wax oil finish. Unlike standard polyurethane, it bonds molecularly with the wood fibres themselves rather than sitting on top of them, preserving the natural feel of the grain.​

Spill Care:

​

  • Clean up any spills immediately. Wipe the surface with a damp cloth and dry it off right away.

​​

Routine Care:

​

  • Using a damp rag with clean water is sufficient for regular cleaning of your oiled furniture. Remember that wood and water do not mix; a dripping wet rag is not needed. Avoid daily cleaning with a damp rag, as continuous exposure to moisture can affect the finished surface.

Repairing/Refreshing Your Furniture:

​

One of the best features of Rubio Monocoat is how easy it is to renew without sanding the entire piece down to bare wood. When a refresh is needed:

​

  1. Abrade: Gently scuff the target area using a maroon buffing pad.

  2. Clean: Thoroughly remove all dust from the surface.

  3. Apply: Apply Rubio Monocoat Oil Plus 2C (in its original colour) using the methods outlined on the can.

  4. Buff Dry: Completely remove all excess oil within 10–15 minutes using a clean cloth.

Products Finished With Odie's Oil

 

Many of our custom furniture pieces are finished with Odie’s Oil, a non-toxic, hard-wax oil blend that provides fantastic water resistance and a lustrous sheen.

​

  • Spill Care: Clean up any spills immediately. Wipe the surface with a damp cloth and dry it off right away.

  • Routine Care: When your furniture needs a wipe-down, you can use any of these four safe methods:​

​

  1. Damp Rag: A damp rag is usually adequate for routine cleaning of your piece; ensure the rag is not dripping wet. Once cleaning is done, dry the surface and ensure no excess water is left.

  2. Mild Soapy Water: Use a drop of mild dish soap in warm water. Wipe down, ensure you rinse away any leftover suds with a clean, damp cloth, and buff dry.

  3. Vinegar Solution: Mix 1 part white vinegar with 10 parts water. Wipe down using a soft terry-cotton cloth.

  4. Odie's Cleaning Concentrate: Mix a 2% solution of Odie’s Cleaning Concentrate with 98% water in a spray bottle. Spray lightly, wipe clean, and dry.

  • Repairing/Refreshing your Furniture:

In most home environments, an Odie's Oil finish will not require a refresh for many years. However, if the wood begins to look dull or dry, simply clean the surface thoroughly and apply a very light, thin coat of the original Odie's Oil finish, then completely buff off any excess.
